Beyond the Ordinary
PCMC's journey began in 1949. As a Spanish speaking congregation in the Lower East Side of Manhattan that was marked with a mix of economic opportunity, social challenges, discrimination and language barriers--faith prevailed. That first generation of believers worked tirelessly to spread the gospel in the community and around the world, minister to the needy, seek the in-filling of the Holy Spirit and fundraise to purchase the church structure that is still being used today. It became a muti-generational church which emphasized the importance of passing on faith across generations.
As the newer generations arose within the church community, the ability to effectively communicate and share faith traditions became difficult. The children became English dominant, and the community began experiencing gentrification which prompted the need to minister to people that were bilingual.
PCMC-English was started in 2002 with a core group from the Spanish church. After the COVID pandemic, the church experienced a decline in attendance which prompted the leadership to unite both Spanish and English groups. After five years of functioning as one bilingual church in June 2025 the groups were separated, and we are now ministering to a multicultural church that serves diverse groups within the congregation and community.
Our church's parent organization is Assembly of Christian Churches, Inc.
